Alexander McQueen Exhibition

As a model, particularly if you are a fashion/catwalk model it's important to know your designers and to know their style of work. This will put you more at ease when on the job as you will have your own background knowledge of their work, how they may have done things before and what they may be looking for. Of course, this changes season to season and through-out their collections.

One of the most inspirational and talented designers to have ever entered the fashion world is Alexander McQueen. His work earnt him many awards including British Designer of the year 4 times over and International Designer of the Year in 2003. One of his many memorable catwalk moments was the Spring 1999 show when he used Shalom Harlow as his canvas while she was spray painted by industrial robots. This is one of my all time moments in fashion and I can not even begin to imagine what it must have been like to have been there witnessing it. Fall 2006  was also a breath-taking show which featured a holographic image of Kate Moss inside a Pyramid which reinforced his reputation as fashion showman.

Following his death in February 2010, McQueen's long-term assistant was announced the new creative director of the brand and launched her first womenswear collection in Paris, September that same year.

The V&A museum in London launched the Alexander McQueen, Savage Beauty exhibition and is the "first and largest retrospective of McQueen's work to be represented in europe". The museum presents McQueen's work starting from his 1992 graduate collection all the way through to his Autumn/Winter 2010 unfinished collection. Once quoted as saying " that's what I'm here for, to demolish the rules but keep the tradition", perfectly sums up his work and demonstrates what kept him so consistent through-out his time in the industry. His interests in historical art-work, the natural elements, memento mori (Images and symbols that remind you of death), tailoring and of course his love of London are all common themes in his work and make his collections so distinct.
The exhibition takes you through the parts of his mind (including the darker sides) and his fashion journey including A Romantic Mind, A Gothic Mind, Romantic Primitivism, Romantic Nationalism, Cabinet of Curiosities, Romantic Exoticism, Voss, Romantic Naturalism and finally Plato's Atlantis.

This amazing, once in a life time exhibition opened in march and ran until the 2nd of August 2015. If you had the opportunity to go, I'm sure you weren't disappointed.

The Met Gala 2015

The Met Gala is a yearly fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York and marks the opening of the annual fashion exhibit. Anyone who is anyone attends and guests have to dress according to the chosen theme. This years theme was China: through the looking glass. It's plain to see that some celebrity's made a real effort and tried to incorporate an essence of the theme and others (even though they looked amazing) just used it as an excuse to dress as elaborately as they wanted.
Here are a couple of my favourites from this year.
Sarah Jessica Parker in an amazing H&M dress would you believe it!!!
Sui Pei Qin in a stunning Tommy Hilfiger dress.
Kendall Jenner who I always think looks amazing, in Calvin Klein.
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture
Saving the best til last, Beyonce in her Givenchy dress KILLING IT!

Remember here at LDN Models we love seeing your inspiration pictures and anything that you think will work in wardrobe our stylist is happy to look at and go through with you. Let's see how our models get on at the studio this week and whether any of our Met Gala celebrities are their inspiration. Book in asap or miss out on our amazing test shoots!

Menswear Staple Items

Menswear Staple Items

My last post was about my love for the new female fluffy fashion item : the fluffy sandal heel. Today I'm going to keep the theme of shoes going but concentrate on some menswear shoe staples I believe are super important to have in your wardrobe. I didn't want our men to feel neglected. : )
Trainers as casual foot attire have always been popular for there comfortability and practicality, however in the past couple years they have started to not only be worn with tracksuit bottoms but also with smarter outfits creating a new phase in menswear fashion.

My second staple is the classic Brogue. I think this is a super versatile shoe. It can be worn to work with a suit or on a casual day with jeans. They come in many different colours which allows you to pick a colour that already works well with the wardrobe you have.

My last pick is the Chelsea boot. For me, even though it's still a versatile shoe if you are able to find a nice suede pair in a black or a dark brown then they should be kept for smart, special occasions. Very easy to wear and as an added bonus NO LACES with this style either!!

At LDN Models we love seeing the outfits you bring to the studio. It show's us a little more of your personality before you've even got on set. Be you, Be fabulous.

Fluffy Fabulousness!

Fluffy Fabulousness!

So this post may be more female trend orientated but don't worry fellas I'v got your back and will be posting some SS15 male trends this weekend. However, this evening I want to talk about the fluffy heel trend.

I LOVE this trend, not only do they make a super cute outfit extra cute but they can make a more androgynous look a little more feminine.
Style bloggers have gone mad for this trend and they're something you've probably seen floating around on social media sites like Instagram for a while now.

Many high street brands stock this style of sandal heel but to be honest for all you creative hearts out there they're the kind of thing you could create quite easily yourself. Chose a pair of sandal heels you already own and don't mind experimenting with, pick up some fluffy fabulous material from your nearest textile shop and using some fabric glue attach it the front strap of your heel. D.I.Y at its greatest!! Remember to be careful using the fabric glue and read the instructions carefully before use.

Everyone who knows me knows I love socks and sandals - don't judge me! lol. So this look right here is so up my street!!

Can't wait to see if our lovely models at LDN Models Ltd bring anything like this to the studio in this next couple weeks. I'll be checking our Instagram  and the LDN Models Facebook page  to see what great things have been happening!
