Alexander McQueen Exhibition

As a model, particularly if you are a fashion/catwalk model it's important to know your designers and to know their style of work. This will put you more at ease when on the job as you will have your own background knowledge of their work, how they may have done things before and what they may be looking for. Of course, this changes season to season and through-out their collections.

One of the most inspirational and talented designers to have ever entered the fashion world is Alexander McQueen. His work earnt him many awards including British Designer of the year 4 times over and International Designer of the Year in 2003. One of his many memorable catwalk moments was the Spring 1999 show when he used Shalom Harlow as his canvas while she was spray painted by industrial robots. This is one of my all time moments in fashion and I can not even begin to imagine what it must have been like to have been there witnessing it. Fall 2006  was also a breath-taking show which featured a holographic image of Kate Moss inside a Pyramid which reinforced his reputation as fashion showman.

Following his death in February 2010, McQueen's long-term assistant was announced the new creative director of the brand and launched her first womenswear collection in Paris, September that same year.

The V&A museum in London launched the Alexander McQueen, Savage Beauty exhibition and is the "first and largest retrospective of McQueen's work to be represented in europe". The museum presents McQueen's work starting from his 1992 graduate collection all the way through to his Autumn/Winter 2010 unfinished collection. Once quoted as saying " that's what I'm here for, to demolish the rules but keep the tradition", perfectly sums up his work and demonstrates what kept him so consistent through-out his time in the industry. His interests in historical art-work, the natural elements, memento mori (Images and symbols that remind you of death), tailoring and of course his love of London are all common themes in his work and make his collections so distinct.
The exhibition takes you through the parts of his mind (including the darker sides) and his fashion journey including A Romantic Mind, A Gothic Mind, Romantic Primitivism, Romantic Nationalism, Cabinet of Curiosities, Romantic Exoticism, Voss, Romantic Naturalism and finally Plato's Atlantis.

This amazing, once in a life time exhibition opened in march and ran until the 2nd of August 2015. If you had the opportunity to go, I'm sure you weren't disappointed.

The Met Gala 2015

The Met Gala is a yearly fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York and marks the opening of the annual fashion exhibit. Anyone who is anyone attends and guests have to dress according to the chosen theme. This years theme was China: through the looking glass. It's plain to see that some celebrity's made a real effort and tried to incorporate an essence of the theme and others (even though they looked amazing) just used it as an excuse to dress as elaborately as they wanted.
Here are a couple of my favourites from this year.
Sarah Jessica Parker in an amazing H&M dress would you believe it!!!
Sui Pei Qin in a stunning Tommy Hilfiger dress.
Kendall Jenner who I always think looks amazing, in Calvin Klein.
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture
Saving the best til last, Beyonce in her Givenchy dress KILLING IT!

Remember here at LDN Models we love seeing your inspiration pictures and anything that you think will work in wardrobe our stylist is happy to look at and go through with you. Let's see how our models get on at the studio this week and whether any of our Met Gala celebrities are their inspiration. Book in asap or miss out on our amazing test shoots!

Menswear Staple Items

Menswear Staple Items

My last post was about my love for the new female fluffy fashion item : the fluffy sandal heel. Today I'm going to keep the theme of shoes going but concentrate on some menswear shoe staples I believe are super important to have in your wardrobe. I didn't want our men to feel neglected. : )
Trainers as casual foot attire have always been popular for there comfortability and practicality, however in the past couple years they have started to not only be worn with tracksuit bottoms but also with smarter outfits creating a new phase in menswear fashion.

My second staple is the classic Brogue. I think this is a super versatile shoe. It can be worn to work with a suit or on a casual day with jeans. They come in many different colours which allows you to pick a colour that already works well with the wardrobe you have.

My last pick is the Chelsea boot. For me, even though it's still a versatile shoe if you are able to find a nice suede pair in a black or a dark brown then they should be kept for smart, special occasions. Very easy to wear and as an added bonus NO LACES with this style either!!

At LDN Models we love seeing the outfits you bring to the studio. It show's us a little more of your personality before you've even got on set. Be you, Be fabulous.

Fluffy Fabulousness!

Fluffy Fabulousness!

So this post may be more female trend orientated but don't worry fellas I'v got your back and will be posting some SS15 male trends this weekend. However, this evening I want to talk about the fluffy heel trend.

I LOVE this trend, not only do they make a super cute outfit extra cute but they can make a more androgynous look a little more feminine.
Style bloggers have gone mad for this trend and they're something you've probably seen floating around on social media sites like Instagram for a while now.

LDN Models

Many high street brands stock this style of sandal heel but to be honest for all you creative hearts out there they're the kind of thing you could create quite easily yourself. Chose a pair of sandal heels you already own and don't mind experimenting with, pick up some fluffy fabulous material from your nearest textile shop and using some fabric glue attach it the front strap of your heel. D.I.Y at its greatest!! Remember to be careful using the fabric glue and read the instructions carefully before use.

Everyone who knows me knows I love socks and sandals - don't judge me! lol. So this look right here is so up my street!!

Can't wait to see if our lovely models at LDN Models Ltd bring anything like this to the studio in this next couple weeks. I'll be checking our Instagram  and the LDN Models Facebook page  to see what great things have been happening!

Kylie Jenner influenced make-up

LDN Models Makeup Tips

Now I'm no make up artist but getting that flawless look is something many of us try to achieve and as we all the Kardashians and the Jenners are huge influencers within the beauty and fashion industry. Kylie in particular has stolen the lime light in the past year or so for many reasons, number 1 being her lips (real or fake?) and number 2 her hair style choices.
I'v touched on her hair styles and various colours before so I thought today I'd concentrate on her make up looks. After watching what feels like a million Youtube Videos on Kylie Jenner inspired looks the basics are all the same. Some people decide to put their base on before they do their eye make up and some prefer to do it after as it means the clean up of eye shadow is easier but it's totally up to you.

1. A good base foundation.
2. Contour and highlight - with Kylie you can keep it quite soft, she's not as strong with the contour unlike her sisters.
3. A neutral eye shadow - so I'm talking browns and nudes.
4. Subtle eye liner - No harsh cat eye flicks
5. Mascara - Obviously!!
6. Nude eyeliner for your bottom waterline - this really makes your eyes pop and makes the white of your eye super white!
7.Lip liner
8. Lip stick

This is what we're aiming for!

Below I'd added a couple of my fav YouTube tutorials on how to achieve her look. Like I said they're very similar but offer different variations in terms of the products you can buy. Some are a little more expensive than others but than at least you have the option to shop around and see which ones work better for you.

Coachella Greatness

One of the most fashion fuelled festivals of the year has started. This year, the first weekend was over the days 10th, 11th and 12th of April and the 2nd weekend (this coming weekend) 17th, 18th and 19th of April. Anyone who's anyone attends and its a great opportunity to see what festival looks will take off over the summer period.
Vanessa Hudgens for me has always set the bar high in terms of her Coachella look. Absolute style icon!

This year Kylie Jenner of course stole the style lime light sporting her blue mermaid locks (100% a wig). It was the centre of her look and everyone's attention. I loved it and even though I have my own opinion on her dressing age appropriately she does kill it with her outfit combo's!

Another Coachella story that's had us all buzzing was Madonna's stage lip locking moment with Drake. He didn't look like he enjoyed it and I don't believe the audience loved seeing it. It seems she'll stop at nothing to get public attention, maybe its time to call it a day Madge.

We love creating festival boho looks in the studio, here's one I worked on a couple weeks ago. Amazing model who already had awesome style. She really got into character when she got on set and the results were epic!

Lily-Rose Depp..who is she???

LDN Models Fashion Industry News

Lily-Rose Depp sounds like a normal 15 year old girls name...with 1 clue about who she may be related to. That's right she's the teenage daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis. She was brought to my attention when a YouTube video of her went viral. Don't worry, nothing sinister at all, just a montage of clips of her messing around with friends behaving as quirky 15 year old girls do.

A small glimpse into the life of someone we haven'y heard much about up until now. Maybe the likes of Kendall and Kylie have encouraged her to make more public appearances and she definitely knows how to pick them. She arrived at then Chanel Metiers d'Art show in New York with her mother looking super cute in a 2 piece crop top and pencil skirt.

Both mother and daughter looking gorgeous and its easy to see Lily has inherited both her parents good looks. Lets hope she manages to stay grounded despite her making more public appearances.
Happy Monday!

Layering Fashion

So this week has finally graced us with some decent weather! The denim jackets are out and the woollen boyfriend coats are back in the wardrobe....lets hope it lasts.
Even though in the sun it feels warm as soon as the sun sets the chill sets in pretty quickly which can play havoc with your outfit options.....My advice?....layering up. This allows you to take items off if necessary and still keeping warm in the spring evenings.
This is a unisex look, across both sexes and all trends. Here are a couple of pics to get you inspired.

Feel free to play with fabrics and textures with this trend.  No need for consistency here at all,  sometimes fashion works in our favour and is all about practicality. It's only April and the weather in the UK modelling industry is very unpredictable so at least with this look you can be prepared.

LDN Models

This lovely model wore this amazing knit jumper on set at the studio which is a perfect example of the kind of items you can wear to create this look. Wear it over the top of an oversized t-shirt, under a light-wash denim jacket and you are rolling. They key thing is to make layers only slightly noticeable. Visit the LDN Models website.

Trend Alert!!!

Hi guys!
Hope you all had a lovely Easter, just a quick one as I'm sure your all busy enjoying your bank holiday weekend. I just wanted to make a quick prediction of something that I think will make a come back this summer.....the visor....ok, I know some of you are cringing at the idea but I actually quite like this trend. I'm not sure if everyone will embrace this look again and it will be interesting to review this trend later on in the year to see how it caught on.

I have already seen some high-street shops stocking these style caps and have ordered  a black and white one ready for my holiday in May. :)

Here are some cute pics to show you guys how they are being worn and the different styles of visor. Don't be shocked if you start seeing some of our lovely models rocking a visor in our future shoots at the studio!

Hair colour trends

Experimenting with hair colour trends is something A LOT of us do. Over the past couple years pastel hair colours have been a massive trend ranging from pinks, oranges, blues and purples. Kylie Jenner dip dyed her ends turquoise and people went mad for it.
This years hot new colour is grey (believe it or not). People have been trying to cover their sneaky greys for years and now it's fashion so put down the brown hair dye and embrace it!
Bleach London not only do lovely pastel colours but they also have the silver grey in stock so check it out if you fancy a change. If your under 18 remember to check with your parent or guardian before dyeing your hair. There is always a risk of damaging your natural hair when changing the colour as well as not easily getting your natural hair colour back so always think carefully before you do it.
With all that said and done, get playful and enjoy!

Celebrity Inspired Fashion

LDN Models Style Advice

So as we are all aware celebrity inspired fashion is huge at the moment. We love that celebrity fashion has become more accessible and we don't need their bank accounts to look just as amazing as they do. Many of our lovely clients at the studio bring in images of outfit ideas and inspiration pictures along with them and we always do our best to recreate some of these looks if suitable.

This model killed it in this Kim K inspired dress. We think she looks amazing!

Statement Jewellery

So neutral tones are still very in for spring summer. I'm talking khaki greens, nudes and pinks. These can all be jazzed up with some statement jewellery. The bigger the better!!
We love a statement piece at the studio and often add chunky necklaces to last look outfits to create some added impact.
These are some of my fav around at the moment.

Even if you have some at home of different lengths, layer them up over a plain t-shirt and suddenly you've totally changed your look. It's all about experimenting and working out what works for you. Fashion should be fun and creative so don't be scared, just GO FOR IT!

Check out our Instagram and Facebook pages to see more of what I'm talking about.

How to wear your jacket!

So as we mentally prepare for the warmer weather it allows us to play with ideas of what to wear and how to wear it when the weather is less wardrobe challenging. The look we are currently loving is the 'shoulder robing'. What I mean by this is your jacket perfectly layered over the top of your outfit. So forget about using your sleeves, right now you don't need them, not until you need to wave to a friend anyway.
It allows you to still present your outfit to the world and keep the chill off. I'll show you how some celebs have adopted this trend.

The lovely Ferne McCann's doing it.

Lauren Pope's loving it. Notice she does this with different styles of jacket as well so as long as the jacket fits your shoulders you'll be able to rock this look.

Mira Duma has been playing with this look for a while. She is my ultimate babe!

Lastly our lovely model this weekend working the 'shoulder robing' with effortless style. She did an amazing job.
So remember, forget the sleeves they're useless to you now.
: )

Spring Fashion

So Spring is slowly (very slowly) creeping up on us and I wanted to do a post on what we should expect to see fashion wise and what we can carry over from the winter season.
Here's a couple of my key pieces you guys should have in your wardrobe to look FABULOUS!
Firstly lets talk culottes. I know some people hate them but hey I jumped on this trend as soon as I could and even wore them through winter with my leggings hidden underneath. An easy item to wear in terms of being able to dress them up with heels and a cute blazer or casually with a pair of brogues and an old skool band t-shirt. This trend has been carried over from last Spring so if you have a pair already it's time to bring them back out the wardrobe.

Another staple item for this season is the slouchy light weight trench coat. I'm going to include the cape blazer into this trend as it works in the same way. Comfortable and stylish, what's not to love.

Lastly, denim is always in but its back with a vengeance. I'm talking shirts, jeans, jackets and accessories. Wearing them all at the same time is also now acceptable behaviour so don't be shy with it. Of course you can always keep it simple with a pair of light wash denim jeans and a plain white shirt. Baggy jeans are back in rather than the skinny that we've been so used to so keep it contrasting if you can and wear them with a slim top.
So there you have it, my current must haves. Let us know what interesting combinations you guys try and keep a look out for our future posts on here and our Instagram to see how we've used these trends in the studio.
Enjoy.
